Wilson's popularity travelled to the United States in 2014, when she appeared on Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman who is struggling with her background and falls in love with Noah Solloway. Wilson was awarded an award in the form of a Golden Globe in 2015 for Best Actress, Television Series Drama. The series also starred Maura Terney as well as Joshua Jackson. Wilson said in British Vogue: "I love the fact that I am able to play characters from two angles." Noah believes Alison as a confident sexy character. But in real life, Alison views herself as unattractive. She stated: America has become so moralistic and judging that events on this show appear shocking. In 2018 Wilson left the show to surprise of fans but she was not clear on other information. In an interview with CBS This Morning in August, on CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to leave the show but did not have the right to talk about why. Wilson's film work has grown in recent seasons. In 2016, she was a part in the film I Am The Pretty Thing from the house in the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing. In 2017, she appeared as the cryptic PT Stella, in the sci-fi romcom How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Wilson will add another film of horror in her resume when she is in The Little Stranger, a British version of The Little Stranger, a supernatural thriller based upon the book by Sarah Waters. Wilson is executive producing The film.
